Writing any novel requires quite a bit of research, not just at the computer surfing the internet, but out there in the field. To make sure I was describing Farnden Forest accurately I saw the need to camp out on a hammock with nocturnal animals including wild boars and snakes. Needless to say, I didn't have a good night's sleep. What is truly important, is recording the sounds and smells of the forest. What does it feel like? What is it like to be afraid of the dark and all alone? Nevertheless, it was a great experience, but would I ever do it again? Probably not.
